Fire in central old Cairo brought under control

Civil protection forces brought down a fire that broke out in the wee hours of Wednesday in a number of fabric shops in the Ghoureya neighborhood of central Cairo.

No casualities were reported, a security source told MENA.

A cooling operation is underway to suppress the fire and make sure it does not erupt again, it said.

The neighboring Rowaii area had seen a huge fire erupt in one of the of the hotels in this ancient part of Cairo. It took two days to control the fire that spread to nearby shops containing highly inflammable materials, clothing and fabrics.
