London - SPA
The remnants of Hurricane Gonzalo slammed into Britain on Tuesday, overturning vehicles, delaying ferries and forcing the cancellation of around 10 per cent of flights at London's Heathrow airport, dpa reported.
Traffic on road and rail was disrupted by speed restrictions.
The Meteorological Office recorded wind gusts up to 112 kilometres per hour. It issued a yellow warning for most of the country, warning residents to be aware of strong winds.
Heathrow said flights were being cancelled because weather conditions required more generous spacing between aircraft arriving and departing.
