Flooding receded Wednesday in Thailand\'s southern provinces where heavy rain and flash flooding has damaged homes and blocked roads, officials said. A 9-year-old girl drowned in Yala, Thailand\'s southernmost province, officials said. A landslide had blocked access to a community of more than 1,000 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, along the Gulf of Thailand, the Bangkok Post reported. More than 70 tourists were rescued Tuesday after being stranded at a canal-side resort in Lan Saka district by rising tides and strong currents. Thailand\'s Civil Aviation Department said Nakhon Si Thammarat airport resumed flights after being shutdown due to the bad weather. The road to the airport, however, remained under water and military trucks were being used to get passengers to and from the airport. More rain is on the way, meteorologists warned. Widespread and heavy rain was forecast to hit Nakhon Si Thammarat and areas to the south on Thursday and Friday, the newspaper said.
