Meteorologists say a potentially record-breaking storm is likely to bring snow, high winds and coastal flooding to parts of New England during the weekend. \"During this storm, the extent of places that may receive 6 to 12 inches is unprecedented,\" Henry Margusity, an Accuweather severe weather expert, said. Snow is expected to fall heaviest from the Virginia-West Virginia border stretching to central and eastern Pennsylvania; southeastern New York; northwestern New Jersey; northern Connecticut; central and western Massachusetts; southern New Hampshire; and southwestern Maine. The heaviest downfalls should miss major cities like Washington, Boston and New York, though some wet snow could fall on those areas. Forecasters warn the thunderstorms could cause delays and cancellations at airports throughout New England. The National Weather Service says the heavy snowfall on trees full with leaves could result in fallen branches and downed power lines.
