Warehouse

A huge fire broke out in a warehouse in Al-Hindawiya district, south of Jeddah on Sunday but there were no reports of any injuries.
The Civil Defense Department dispatched 17 fire brigades with heavy equipment to the site to extinguish the blaze, according to Waleed Abu Shanab, deputy of the official spokesman of the Civil Defense Department of Makkah region.
The fire started in the warehouse and began spreading to the surrounding areas but the civil defense teams succeeded in blocking the area from all sides preventing the fire from engulfing the nearby buildings and facilities.
Al-Hindawiya is one of the oldest districts in Jeddah. Many residents of the neighborhood complain about the lack of basic facilities such as water and electricity in addition to the garbage removal services.
“Our financial situation does not allow us to relocate to other areas,” one resident said.
“The fire did not cause any injuries but destroyed all the goods in the warehouse,” he told Arab News.
Hassan Abdullah who lives near the site said, “The fire was so huge that it took the civil defense two hours to put it out.”
Another fire accident took place Sunday at King Faisal Hospital in Makkah. Abdul Wahab Shalbi, spokesman of the Health Department in Makkah, said nine firefighting teams of the civil defense extinguished the fire.
Forty-nine patients were evacuated from the hospital and taken to other hospitals in the city, he said.
