Hurricane Gonzalo pounded Bermuda on Saturday, US weather authorities said, causing power outages in large parts of the territory, according to dpa.
According to the US Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, the eye of the storm was only about 300 kilometres north-east of Bermuda early on Saturday. It is moving north-north-west at about 35 kilometres per hour.
Bermuda Governor George Fergusson posted on Twitter that police had reported no deaths or serious injuries. He described the damage as extensive, but not catastrophic, and said roads were blocked.'
