Jordan is taking part in the 56th Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA currently held in Vienna, according to a statement by the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission JAEC. JAEC Chairman, Khaled Toukan, said in address to the conference that Jordan deems nuclear energy as a strategic means to overcome scarce natural resources and desalinate water. He added that the Jordan nuclear program tops the Kingdom’s mega projects and is hoped to meet the its needs of energy and water. Toukan noted that preliminary studies showed that Jordan has more than 20,000 tons of uranium in the central region. On the sidelines of the conference, Toukan met with President of the IAEA, Yukiya Amano, and discussed with him scopes of cooperation between Jordan and international body and prospects for supporting Jordan’s nuclear drive.
