An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit Colombia's northwest province of Acandi at 0010 GMT Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter was initially determined to be at 8.3 degrees north latitude and 77.4 degrees west longitude, at a depth of 10 km.
