A magnitude-6.1 earthquake struck the southern Japanese island of Kyushu early Friday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
No tsunami warning was issued, and there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The quake, which hit the region at 4:14 am (1914 GMT Thursday), originated shallow underground off the coast of Miyazaki prefecture, the area between Kyushu and the south-western island of Shikoku, the agency said.
