A moderate 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of central Chile on Wednesday, shaking buildings in the capital, Santiago, but not causing any reported damage. There was no tsunami alert following the short earthquake, the South Ameican country’s emergency office said. The earthquake was centered 47 kilometers north of the beach city of Vina del Mar at a shallow depth of 11 kilometers, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said. A major 8.2-magnitude earthquake hit the north of the country earlier this month.
