An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 has hit Kumamoto Prefecture in southern Japan, Japan's NHK World reported. The Japan Meteorological Agency said the focus was 13 kilometers deep in the prefecture.
The jolt registered 5 minus on the Japanese seismic scale of 0 to 7 in Kumamoto City and Uki City.The tremor was also felt in other parts of Kyushu, as well as Chugoku and Shikoku regions. Local police said there are no reports of injuries so far.
The agency said it is the first time an earthquake with an intensity of 5 minus or more has been observed in Kumamoto Prefecture since June 12. The prefecture has had many powerful quakes since April 14th, when a temblor with the maximum intensity of 7 hit.
