Abu Dhabi - WAM
Rain and colder temperatures are expected to continue in the U.A.E. until the weekend. While the variety in climate is to be largely welcomed, if nothing more than a reminder of how blessed we are with glorious sun for the rest of the year, the change in weather is worth a timely reminder on how to drive on our roads, commented a local daily this morning. Rain leads to water pooling on our roads. Be considerate to other road users, drive slowly through the puddles and remember that pedestrians do not have the luxury of being able to avoid the wet. Wet roads also mean that it takes longer for vehicles to stop and so the threat of skidding or aqua-planing is real. You need to change your regular driving habits by driving slower and leaving more space between vehicles. If you are going to change lanes, you need to signal clearly and in good time, the Gulf News opined in today's editorial. If you approach a water pool, keep both hands on the steering wheel. Hitting water can make your vehicle pull suddenly in one direction and so you need to be prepared. Do not forget to keep your screen-wash water levels topped up. If you cannot see clearly through the windshield, you cannot drive safely. Washers and wipers are vital, the paper added.
