Philippines affected by flooding

More than 62,000 people were affected by flooding in some parts of the Philippines due to continuous rain brought by the intertropical convergence zone, the country's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Saturday.

Intermittent rains since last week have resulted to flooding and flashflood in several towns in central province of Bohol and southern provinces of Bukidnon and Maguindanao.

Of the affected population, about 900 of them were evacuated to safer place.

The NDRRMC earlier reported that nine people died due to flashflood.

Damage to agriculture and infrastructure sectors was initially pegged at 5.45 million pesos (nearly 118,995 U.S. dollars).

The provincial government of Bukidnon has placed Valencia City under the state of calamity.
