Waves lash the ferry pier on the North Sea coast

A powerful storm front heading in from the Atlantic has halted ferry traffic from Germany's North Sea coast to outlying islands, a shipping company spokesman said Friday, according to dpa.
Ferries from the port of Cuxhaven to the island of Helgoland have been suspended, while some services to islands closer to the coast are experiencing restrictions.
The north coast of Germany is bracing itself for a storm surge of 1-1.5 metres ahead of the powerful weather system which is expected to bring high winds and heavy rain to Germany during Friday and Saturday.
