A quake measuring 4.5 on the open-ended Richter scale hit Boumerdes city, situated 50 kilometers east of the Algerian capita, Sky News reported on Sunday. No material damage or human losses were reported so far in the quake. A destructive earthquake of magnitude 6.8 hit the region of Boumerdes and Algiers on May 21, 2003, leaving at least 3,000 people dead and almost 10,000 others wounded.
