Beijing - XINHUA
Moderate to heavy rain will continue in the quake-hit regions in southwest China's Yunnan province in the coming days, heightening risks of flooding and landslides, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) forecast Sunday.
A 6.5-magnitude quake jolted the southwest province on Aug. 3, leaving 617 people dead and 112 missing. Rescuers are now racing at full speed to drain the quake-formed barrier lake which is still threatening local residents with flooding.
The NMC warned the persisting rain may push up water levels in the lake and urged local authorities to strengthen monitoring and keep alert to possible risks.
Elsewhere in China, some areas in Sichuan and Hubei provinces will also be hit by heavy downpours, according to the NMC.
