China's meteorological authority on Monday forecast rain and low temperatures for the country's northern regions over the next three days. Rain will fall in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region and other northern areas, as well as regions along the Yellow and Huai rivers, from Monday to Wednesday, the National Meteorological Center said. Shaanxi Province and the Sichuan Basin will see heavy rains and storms during the period, the center said. Most northern regions, including the central and eastern parts of Inner Mongolia, will see gales and temperatures dropping from 4 to 8 degrees Celsius from Monday to Wednesday, the center said. The center also warned of foggy weather in parts of Jilin and Liaoning provinces, north China, the Sichuan Basin and regions along the Yellow, Huai, Yangtze and Han rivers on Monday. Visibility will be reduced to less than 1,000 meters in some parts of Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan, Hebei and Shanxi provinces, the center said. The center forecast that tropical storm Jelawat, which strengthened to a supertyphoon in waters southeast of the Philippine capital of Manila late Sunday, will move northwestward and affect Taiwan and its surrounding waters around Friday.
