General President for Presidency of Meteorology and Environment, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Omar Al-Jasser inaugurated here today, the Regional Centre for Numerical Weather Forecast in the field of meteorology. In a statement on the occasion, he said that choosing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by the region's countries as the headquarters for the center reflects the potential, technology and national experiences owned by it in the field of meteorology, noting that the center will lead to developing the capacity of types of numerical forecasts at the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment , contributing significantly to the advancement of its products of immediate and short-term forecasts of phenomena and weather conditions, especially, the phenomena of high-impact, such as heavy rain and flash floods to enable the beneficiary agencies of these forecasts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)'s member States and the Arab countries to respond rapidly to mitigate the negative effects of these phenomena on citizens to protect lives and properties. He pointed out that the inauguration of the center coincides with the celebration of World Meteorology Day which falls on March 23 each year.
