A strong earthquake measuring 6.3 magnitude on the Richter scale hit the New Ireland region today, the Malaysian Meteorological Department said. The quake\'\'s epicentre was 852km northeast of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea and 4,076 southeast of Tawau, Sabah in Malaysia. It did not pose any tsunami threat, the department said in a statement.
