The world has warmed since the start of the Industrial Revolution. Rising atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases -- emitted by human activity -- are partly to blame for a whole variety of deadly weather extremes, like heatwaves, currently experienced across the world. 2001-2010 was the hottest decade since records began.
