Tropical Storm Vance strengthened south of Mexico early Friday and could become a hurricane and move toward the country's Pacific coast this weekend, U.S. forecasters said.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Vance was 765 kilometers south of the beach-resort city of Acapulco at 1500 GMT, with maximum sustained winds of 72 kilometers per hour (kph), and could become a hurricane on Sunday.
While the storm currently is moving south-southwest at a slow 5 kph, the NHC described the movement as erratic, adding that Vance could threaten the Pacific coast of Mexico by early next week.Tropical Storm Vance strengthened south of Mexico early Friday and could become a hurricane and move toward the country's Pacific coast this weekend, U.S. forecasters said.
