A 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck 150 kilometers south of Papua New Guinea on Tuesday and warnings of tsunamis were issued.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported the event and issued a " hazardous" alert within 300km of the epicenter.
Geoscience Australia measured the earthquake's depth at 98km, but reported information had not yet been finalized.
Islands in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Indonesia, Vanuatu, Fiji, Indonesia, the Philippines and surrounding nations are expected to be hit by the waves.
But their potential severity remains to be ascertained.
