Turkish police announced Friday that it carried out a wide-scale operation against oil smuggling from Hatay province in eastern Turkey, near Syrian borders.
Police said in a statement that operation was done in coordination with the city's security apparatus and a number of patrols as well as borders checkpoints, which demolished pipelines used in oil smuggling from the city.
The statement added that security forces arrested some of suspects and confiscated many firearms.
Hatay is the favorite route by which oil, tobacco, drugs, luxurious cars and alcoholic beverages are smuggled to other places.
