In Amira Parree's solo exhibition "Between existence and nonexistence" – opening 15 April at Mahmoud Mokhtar's museum – the France-based Egyptian-Dutch artist analyses her own process of living, communication and creation. Strictly related to the artist herself and her surroundings, the collection on display is an ongoing project, based on many personal experiences. "My work is a self-conscious moment of reflection," she tells Ahram Online. "It mostly questions identity and social matters, most of which are [my] personal experiences." Parree uses a multitude of mediums: "Each medium comes with its own story and tells me how I can use it the best," she says. She says that her work "acknowledges the precedent of certain strains from the 1960s. It seems apparently indebted to the tradition of artisanal craftsmanship." Source: Ahram Online
