Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr held an expanded meeting Sunday with ministry staff and former ambassadors and foreign ministers as part of efforts to revive Egypt\'s Diplomacy Day. The meeting was attended by former UN chief Boutros Boutros-Ghali, former Arab League Secretary-General and former foreign minister Amr Moussa and incumbent chief of the pan-Arab body Nabil el-Arabi. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs celebrates on the 15th of March every year the Day of the Egyptian Diplomacy , which corresponds with the re-establishing of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry after the Declaration of Independence from Britain on the 22nd of February 1922. Being the most important aspect of sovereignty and independence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had been abolished for seven years after the announcement of the British protectorate over Egypt in 1914 and its work and terms of reference were transferred to the British High Commissioner. On 15 March 1922, the British government informed the states that have had representatives in Cairo that the Egyptian government is \"now free to re-inaugurate the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and thus can establish diplomatic and consular representation abroad.
