Iranian President Hassan Rouhani won a second presidential term according to initial results released by the Iranian Interior Ministry.
IRNA news agency quoted Head of the elections committee, Ali Asghar Ahmadi as saying that Rouhani won more than 22 million votes compared to over 15 million votes for candidate Ebrahim Raisi.
Ahmadi said that the Iranian presidential elections witnessed a turnout by 71 percent, which means more than 40 million people voted out of 56 million.
