Instead of trying to fix someone's problem, it may be better to listen attentively to the person who is describing it. Lending a sympathetic ear will make a relative or neighbour feel much better about their plight. Others are often intimidated by a capable person like you. They don't like discussing their difficulties, fearing you will look down on them for struggling. You're much more compassionate than that. When someone starts venting their frustrations, stop what you're doing, sit down and nod encouragingly.
