Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Dubai Culture, has announced that it is organising two workshops focused on acting and stage directing as part of the Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre 2017. The acting workshop will run from 10th to 16th September and the stage directing workshop will follow from 17th to 23rd September.
The two workshops will be hosted by Dr. Nabila Hassan at Dubai Production City, with 50 places available for university students, theatre professionals and interested members of the public.
Dr. Nabila Hassan comes from an artistic background; in addition to her role as a university professor, she entered the world of acting in the early 70s and currently acts as Head of the Acting and Directing Department at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts.
Fatma Al Jallaf, Head of Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre and Acting Events Manager at Dubai Culture, commented, "We are expecting remarkably high participation for this year’s workshops as they address essential topics and promise to enhance the skills of both stage directors and actors. The workshops are aligned with the new Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre programme, which covers all of the most important subjects for people who are interested in this field."
The 12 days of workshops will shed light on several different topics including the history of the theatre, the improvements to Stanislavski's System, and the Grotowski approach to acting. The workshops will also discuss creative restrictions for actors and directors, and consider the importance of overcoming these obstacles to develop talent.
Dubai Culture aims to enhance Dubai’s cultural scene and draw attention to the emirate’s rich heritage with a variety of initiatives that take place throughout the year. The authority’s mandate is to build bridges of constructive dialogue between different civilisations and cultures through enriching initiatives that benefit the Emirate’s citizens, residents and visitors.
