Buenos Aires - Itar-Tass
The Slavic cultural festival “Mother-Rus” was held successfully in the Argentinean capital. The coordinating council of Russian compatriots with the support of the Russian Embassy in Argentina has organized the festival. Residents and guests of Buenos Aires learnt about Russian culture on Saturday and plunged in the atmosphere of a real holiday for one day on the central avenue of the Argentinean capital just a few meters away from the governmental palace Casa Rosada (rose house). Dozens of artistic companies of Russian compatriots came to participate in the festival from all regions of the country to perform Russian folksongs and dances and stage modern performances. Russian Ambassador in Argentina Viktor Koronelli told Itar-Tass that the Slavic cultural festival “is the most large scale and spectacular event, which our compatriots in Argentina have organized and staged in the course of the year.” He noted “the high level of artistic skills, an outstanding festive spirit and the feeling of patriotism.” “We witness at an example of this festival how large and significant our Russian diaspora in Argentina is and it is highly valuable how they preserve our common cultural traditions and cultural wealth,” the Russian diplomat noted. During the festival an information stand about Russia and the Sochi Olympics was placed at the initiative of young Russian compatriots. All visitors could taste traditional dishes of Russian cuisine and could buy the souvenirs.
