When her children were young, author Mary Cavanaugh tried to find a new way each year to make Christmastime special for her four children. With a strong passion for poetry and rhyme, she wrote a song for her children about a little mouse that travels with Santa on Christmas Eve. Now Cavanaugh shares her popular family tune with other families in her debut children’s book, “A Christmas Mouse” (published by AuthorHouse). “Our family has just moved into our first real home, and my children and I sat on the floor in front of the fireplace and recorded a cassette tape of Christmas songs,” explains Cavanaugh. “My children were always happy to sing, and the Christmas Mouse song became a favorite from that moment on.” “A Christmas Mouse” follows a cute, little mouse who stows away in Santa Claus’ sack as he leaves to deliver Christmas gifts. Each time Santa stops at a house, the mouse darts quickly out of the sack and eats the cookies that have been set out by the boys and girls before Santa even notices what has happened. The book’s colorful illustrations will delight young readers, and the music to the Christmas Mouse song is included at the end of the book. “’A Christmas Mouse’ also has a message of sharing the Christmas spirit with everyone, even a mouse!” exclaims Cavanaugh. “Children are never too young to be taught the value of sharing and the joy it can bring into our lives.
