As many in the working world have, Russ Zinser noticed that outside consultants are held in higher esteem than internal employees, even though those employees may have the answers for which the company is looking to its consultants. Zinser’s new book, “In the Balance” (published by iUniverse), takes the consultant role of offering convincing data, in novel form, that change is necessary to save the world from destruction. The book will be featured at the 2014 Miami Book Fair from Nov. 16-23.
“While returning home after a consulting engagement I was fretting about the state of our government,” Zinser explains. “I realized that the government would only change if a clearly superior outside force (a consultant) could provide convincing data that change is needed. I had the idea that the superior force could be a distant planet that observed the self-destruction of a similar planet to Earth (the data).”
“In the Balance” introduces Steve Coulter, a controversial talk show host, who is one of three earthly representatives the alien people of the planet Centor invite to meet with them in Deep Space. The Centorians witness the demise of the planet Mortor, which was similar in many ways to Earth, and want to share their information and offer advice to the people of Earth. However, when the three representatives return to life on Earth, they must choose what they will do with the information – return to their previous, comfortable lives or go up against the establishment to make the changes prescribed by the Centorians.
“This book is about hope;” Zinser writes, “hope for the future of our country.”
