Argentina's economy minister arrived Tuesday in New York for talks to resolve an impasse with hedge-fund creditors whose refusal to accept a debt restructuring has pushed the country to the brink of a new default.
In an unannounced trip, Economy Minister Axel Kicillof flew out of Caracas, where he had been attending a summit of South American regional group Mercosur, and traveled to the offices of New York lawyer Dan Pollack. A US court-appointed mediator, Pollack is trying to resolve Argentina's dispute with the so-called "holdout" hedge funds.
