Australian novelist Richard Flanagan won the Man Booker Prize on Tuesday for his book "The Narrow Road to the Deep North", inspired by his father's experience as a prisoner of war.
The third Australian to win the prestigious award, Flanagan's triumph means that two US authors shortlisted for the first time after the award was expanded to allow American nominees went home empty handed.
