South Africa's government on Thursday said the Dalai Lama had cancelled a planned trip to the country after an aide said he would be denied a visa for the third time.
The foreign ministry said it had "received written confirmation from the office of His Holiness The Dalai Lama in India indicating that His Holiness has cancelled his planned visit to South Africa."
The Dalai Lama had been slated to attend a meeting of Nobel laureates in October.
