US President Barack Obama on Monday welcomed the nomination of a new prime minister in violence-torn Iraq as he urged a peaceful transition of power in Baghdad.
"This new leadership has a difficult task to regain the confidence of its citizens by governing inclusively and taking steps to demonstrate its resolve," Obama said in a statement to the press during his vacation in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.
