Spain's Constitutional Court on Tuesday blocked a symbolic independence referendum, planned by the wealthy northeastern region of Catalonia on November 9, at the request of the nation's central government.
The Catalan regional government in mid-October dropped plans for an official non-binding independence referendum and replaced it with the symbolic vote, after the court also suspended that vote.
