The Spanish government on Monday filed a constitutional appeal to prevent the Catalonia region from voting on whether it should be independent from Spain, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said.
The government "formally presented the constitutional appeals" to Spain's Constitutional Court to block Catalan leaders' move to hold a vote on November 9, Rajoy told reporters after an extraordinary cabinet meeting.
