Congress on Thursday passed US President Barack Obama's plan to train and arm moderate Syrian rebels to battle jihadists.
The Senate voted 78 to 22 to authorize the first step in Obama's strategy to degrade and destroy the Islamic State group which has conquered swaths of territory in Iraq and Syria.
