Social Solidarity Minister Ghada Wali

Egypt's Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali asserted that an agreement will be inked Friday with the World Bank for a 400-million-dollar loan to support social care in Egypt.

Part of the loan will be allocated to supporting a social program offering monthly allowance to poor families and old people, she said in statements to MENA.

On the sidelines of the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund held here, Wali said that the number of those benefiting from the program, which started in November, reached 100,000.

Several funding bodies want to participate in the program, Wali added.

Wali said that she took part Thursday in a workshop on insurance programs for the labor of the non-official sector, adding that the workshop was a chance to learn about the experiments of China, India, Peru, Uruguay and Kenya in the field of insuring non-official sector workers especially in the sector of building and construction.

There are four million workers in the sectors of building and construction including 200,000 only who have insurance, Wali added.
