Abu Dhabi - Arab Today
Nearly two million Muslims in 65 countries were the beneficiaries of Dh17.1 million in donations from the Emirates Red Crescent's Ramadan campaigns.
The UAE charitable organisation spent more than Dh12.7m on its Iftar Saem programme to provide meals to almost 1.3 million people.
Another Dh2.9m was allocated towards the Zakat Fitr programme, which benefited 196,000. The ERC also spent Dh1.4m on the Keswat Al-Eid programme, which distributed Eid clothing to 35,700 children, according to Wam, the state news agency.
The projects were funded by public donations and carried out with the help of volunteers. The Iftar Saem programme was directed at Muslims overseas, where Ramadan tents were erected in economically deprived neighbourhoods, refugee camps, orphanages and educational institutions offering large crowds of fasters nutritious meals for Iftar.
