Kuwait - KUNA
Chairman of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) zakat (alms-giving) bodies discussed here on Monday a Kuwaiti overture suggesting the promotion of charitable projects via a single website.
The discussion took place during a two-day meeting of GCC zakat chiefs, which kicked off here today to mainly ponder over obstacles and problems impeding zakat agencies in the GCC member states.
The conferees also considered the experiments of zakat funds in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and Kuwaiti Zakat House's office in Egyptian capital Cairo.
They, furthermore, agreed to set up a joint working team to thrash out eight working papers presented during the gathering as a prelude to further discussions and deliberations during the 10th GCC zakat meeting.
In a keynote speech during the conference, Director-General of the Kuwait Zakat House Dr. Ibrahim Al-Saleh stressed the significance of the GCC Secretariat's role in the coordination of such important meetings.
He seized this opportunity to congratulate His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on the recent UN honoring as a "Humanitarian Leader" and Kuwait as a "Humanitarian Center".
