Riyadh - Arab Today
No infectious cases of hepatitis A have so far been reported among citizens or residents arising from eating frozen strawberries imported from Egypt, the Ministry of Health said in a statement.
The ministry is closely following the epidemiological situation in the world through coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO) and disease control centers in the United States and Europe, the statement said.
From the very beginning, the ministry has coordinated with the Saudi Food and Drugs Agency (SFDA) and provided it with global reports on the suspected relation of one of the Egyptian products, strawberries, with hepatitis A in the United States, the statement said.
Accordingly, the SFDA carried out necessary tests, took all precautionary measures in this regard, and proved that no imported items were infected with this virus, it said.
The ministry said what was published on social media on the presence of infected cases was not correct, and no cases were reported in any hospital within the Kingdom, including King Faisal Specialist Hospital.
The ministry further called on all people to get news from their original sources and avoid rumors.
The ministry assured people it would inform them on the latest development in this regard as it keeps in constant contact with the SFDA and other concerned health authorities in the Kingdom.
