Cairo - MENA
Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Saturday with Suez Canal Authority Chief Mohab Mamish.
Mamish reviewed the latest developments of a project of a new sub-canal of East Port Said harbor, said presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef.
The new waterway will upgrade the port's international ranking, said Mamish. The plan is part of the mega Suez Canal development project.
The project attaches importance to the Egyptian ports to make use of Egypt's strategic location.
Efforts to hone the skills of his canal's staffers were also reviewed by Mamish during his meeting with Sisi.
Sisi asserted the importance of continuing efforts to develop the Suez Canal as a key waterway for the world trade, said the spokesman.
He pointed out that the canal is a main source of foreign currency.
Mamish said 140 ships transited the canal last week.
