The reduction in transit fees follows reports that over 100 cargo vessels have chosen the longer route via the southern tip of Africa in the final quarter

Fifty-two ships transited the Suez Canal on Thursday, with a total cargo of 2.87 million tons.

The south-bound convoy included 20 vessels carrying 1.11 million tons, while the north-bound convoy included 32 ships carrying 1.76 million tons, according to navigational statistics released by the Suez Canal Authority.
