Angolan Foreign Minister Georges Rebelo Chicoti said that his country is seeking to renew trade agreements with Egypt, calling on his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry to visit Luanda to determine which agreements to be renewed.
In statements to MENA on Tuesday, the Angolan minister said that there are vistas for cooperation between the two countries, underlining that he will visit Cairo again as part of a Middle East tour.
Chicoti described as "deeply-rooted" ties between the two countries, noting that Egypt was among the countries that acknowledged Angola's independence.
A workshop, titled "Towards a More Effective Collective Response to Peace and Security Threats in the Great Lakes Region", currently in session in Cairo, aims at discussing peace and security in the Great Lakes zone, the minister said.
He further underlined that Egypt has the hands-on experience that enables it to play an active role in restoring stability and shoring up development in this region.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Cairo Center for Conflict resolution and Peacekeeping in Africa, Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) organized the workshop in Cairo.
The workshop also discusses how to enhance collective responses to threats, the current status of peacekeeping missions and the role of civil society in conflict prevention and reconstruction in the Great Lakes Region.
