Chile's president is announcing a $4.2 billion investment plan for transportation projects.
Michelle Bachelet said Wednesday that the program includes a $1.4 billion extension of the Santiago subway, AP reported.
It also would involve reconstruction of cable-drawn elevators that were damaged during a fire earlier this year in the port city of Valparaiso. The elevators run on steep railways and are used by Valparaiso's residents to reach hilly neighborhoods.
