A giant Danish container ship transited Wednesday Suez Canal heading to the Mediterranean Sea coming from southeastern Asia.

Emma Maersk crossed the waterway in the north-bound convoy coming from Sri Lanka en route to Britain, said an official source at the Suez Canal Authority.

The giant vessel, 400 meters long, transited the canal carrying 171.000 tons, the source noted.
