Grand Egyptian Museum

Egypt and Japan will sign soon two deals to fund the construction of the Grand Egyptian Museum and rehabilitate power plants in Cairo, International Cooperation Minister Sahar Nasr said on Thursday.

Nasr said she reached an agreement on that score with Vice Chairman of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Tomiyoshi Kenichi during a gathering on the sidelines of the World Bank annual meetings in Washington, D.C.

The Grand Egyptian Museum symbolizes cultural and civilizational cooperation between Egypt and Japan, Nasr said, expecting this mega project to create many job opportunities for the Egyptian youth.

The meeting tackled also a Japanese project to develop 100 schools in Egypt, she said, adding that her ministry is working on activating agreements signed during the recent visit of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to the Asian country.

The Japanese official, for his part, said his agency is keen on helping Egypt finalize development projects.

He further expressed his country's keenness on increasing prospects of cooperation with Egypt in the coming period.
