The eurozone seasonally volume of adjusted retail trade rose by 1.2 percent in August compared with July, the statistical office of the European Union (EU) Eurostat said Friday.
For the 28-nation EU area, the retail trade also increased by 1.4 percent in August, suggesting an upward trend in demanding.
The retail sales index increased by 1.9 percent in the eurozone and by 2.5 percent in the EU in August on an annual basis.
The latest data showed a sharp peak in total retail trade, which fell by 0.4 percent in both zones in July.
Such improvement in August is mainly due to rises of 1.7 percent for automotive fuel, of 1.5 percent for the non-food sector and of 0.6 percent for "food, drinks and tobacco."
