Investment min., EU official ink 3 deals, one memo on cooperation

Investment Minister Sahar Nassr and Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn signed on Sunday two agreements in the drainage and immigration fields, in addition to a pro-Egyptian single support framework memorandum of understanding.

Nassr, Hahn and Transportation Minister Hisham Arafat also inked an agreement to develop Alexandria tram at a cost of 600 million euros including grants. 

The MoU involves supporting the economic program, energy and environment sustainability, social development and protection, supporting governance reform within the 2017-2020 European neighborhood policy, with a cost amounting to 432-528 million euros.

Nassr said the EU is a significant strategic and developmental partner to Egypt.

Meanwhile, Hahn said the EU is Egypt's most important partner and largest foreign investor.

Alexandria Governor Mohamed Sultan attended the signing ceremony.
